FX6 CINE EI MUTED-COLOR COCKPIT CARD V1 One-page field extraction from Master Handbook V1.0
Operational audio: use external FX6 Audio Field Setup Guide
MASTER FIELD RULE: Expose cleanly. Light selectively. Monitor accurately. Record clean S-Log3. Grade carefully. Do not underexpose S-Log3 to create mood. Audio setup is outside this card.

1. CAMERA BASELINE

• Capture: S-Gamut3.Cine / S-Log3.

• Mode: Cine EI; treat EI as exposure-rating / monitoring decision, not normal gain.

• Normal cinematic motion: 23.98/24p = 1/48 or 180°.

• Codec/format: set frame rate, codec, audio channel plan, and post workflow together.

• Baseline choices must be confirmed before the first serious take.

Refs: pp. 7-18, 120-133

2. CORRECT EXPOSURE ORDER

• Set frame rate.

• Set shutter for motion.

• Choose aperture for depth/lens character.

• Set/lock white balance.

• Use ND to control brightness.

• Verify with waveform/zebras; record a test if the take matters.

Refs: pp. 75-86

3. INDOOR CINE EI

• Start ND Clear in normal or dark interiors.

• Use ND indoors only if large windows/lights make the image too bright.

• Lock WB; avoid ATW for controlled work.

• Pick aperture for performance, face readability, and focus reliability.

• Use waveform/zebras, not LCD brightness alone.

Refs: pp. 68-119, 349-352

4. OUTDOOR CINE EI

• Use Variable ND to hold chosen aperture in daylight/open shade.

• Do not raise shutter to fix brightness unless motion effect is intentional.

• Protect important highlights; keep skin natural.

• Choose shade/negative fill/controlled background before fighting sun.

• Confirm ND Clear/On, Preset/Variable, and Auto ND state.

Refs: pp. 82-94, 117, 125, 352-356

5. EXPOSURE TRUTH

• Waveform is the primary exposure truth.

• Zebras are fast warnings; histogram is secondary.

• S-Log3 references: 18% gray around 41 IRE; 90% white around 61 IRE.

• Expose the face cleanly; let mood come from lighting ratio, fill, background, palette, composition, and grade.

Refs: pp. 112-119, 171-175

6. LUT / MLUT MONITORING

• Do not assume S-Gamut3.Cine/S-Log3 automatically means a monitor LUT.

• Separate: camera color/gamma, SDI/HDMI MLUT, Internal Rec MLUT.

• Recommended: VF/Proxy/Stream MLUT On if useful; SDI/HDMI MLUT On; Internal Rec MLUT Off.

• External monitor LUT Off if FX6 sends MLUT. Avoid double-LUT.

• Field statement: Recording log. Monitoring LUT.

Refs: pp. 142-151, 172-173

7. FOCUS / FRAMING

• Focus the near eye for close performance work.

• Use Face/Eye AF, Push AF, or manual focus deliberately; do not let AF hunt through emotional beats.

• Use Focus Magnifier and Peaking as verification tools.

• Push-ins/pull-backs usually beat casual zooms; recheck focus after zoom changes.

Refs: pp. 94-111, 224-233

8. MUTED-COLOR LOOK

• Mute the environment, not the person.

• Control wardrobe, set color, props, clutter, and background brightness.

• Use negative fill, motivated practicals, restrained contrast, and clean skin.

• Actor reel: performance clarity. Feature: visual grammar. Documentary: truth first.

• Do not over-grade.

Refs: pp. 171-240, 357-364

9. FIRST 60 SECONDS / MEDIA

• Confirm ALL File, physical switches, receiver/audio guide, frame rate, Cine EI/Base ISO/EI, WB, shutter, aperture, ND, LUT, waveform/zebras, focus.

• Slate, record 10-second test, playback review, then record take.

• Never dump cards into one flat folder; preserve full card structure.

• Use reel IDs, clip log, verify before formatting, and keep two backups.

Refs: pp. 241-258, 259-372
